Box Score

EMMITSBURG, Md.--The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell 7-6 to Mount St. Mary's at the Waldron Family Stadium due to two last-minute goals. SJU held a three-goal second half lead, but was out-scored 5-1 in the final period to drop its third-straight game despite two goals from Sean Evans and Alex Lopes.

Saint Joseph's (4-8, 2-4 MAAC) entered the fourth period with a commanding 5-2 lead, but the Mount could not be denied as Christian Kellett's marker nine seconds into the final frame signaled the comeback.

Two more Mount St. Mary's (3-7, 3-2 MAAC) goals with 10:56 and 6:43 remaining knotted the score at five apiece. Evans answered with his second goal of the game off a Trevor Dougherty assist to regain the lead at 6-5 with 4:56 to go.

Saint Joseph's seemed poised to hold off the Mount and walk away the victors, but MSM struck for an equalizer with 38 ticks left. On the ensuing face-off, which the Mountaineers were able to successfully control, Brendan Harrison was fed by Cody Lehrer for the game winning goal just 20 seconds from the final horn.

In a game of two halves, SJU got on the board first thanks to a Tom Dunn tally with 1:25 to go in the first period. MSM responded with a tally of their own to tie things at one apiece going into the second.

The Mount got another less than five minutes into the second period for their first lead in the game. From there until the end of the third it was all Saint Joseph's.

Lopes scored at the 7:29 mark on an unassisted goal, while Evans received a pass from Scott Cullinan for a man-up goal and a 3-2 lead going into half time.

In the third, Lopes and Charlie Gorman led the way when Lopes' goal gave SJU a 4-2 lead. Gorman used a quick restart from behind the net to earn his only goal of the game with 7:30 to go in the third for the Hawks' largest lead.

MSM out-shot SJU 28-27 for the game, 11-5 in the crucial fourth period and also had an edge in ground balls, 34-24. The Mount cleared all 16 attempts successfully, while SJU was 14-for-20, with many critical turnovers turning into Mountaineer goals.

SJU goalkeeper Erik Hotaling had 10 saves, five of which came in the third period that Saint Joseph's shut Mount St. Mary's out. His counterpart, T.C. DiBartolo had 11 stops for MSM.

Today's game also featured the first audio broadcast of a Hawk men's lacrosse game, as Jeremy S. Fallis and Nino Vanin called the play at Waldron Family Stadium.

The Hawks will host Marist, 9-7 losers at Providence on Wednesday, in a MAAC clash that will also serve as SJU's Senior Day for the 14 departing seniors. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. with pre-game festivities starting at 12:45 p.m.
