PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 match to Mount St. Mary's Friday evening at Finnesey Field. The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Mountaineers answered back with two straight goals for the win.

The Hawks (1-2-0) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute on the second goal of the season from Maggie Lupinski. The sophomore took a pass from junior Carly Salter and dribbled up the left side, placing a shot to the opposite corner, past Mount St. Mary's goalkeeper Alicia Miller to put SJU up 1-0 at 24:13.

Mount St. Mary's (1-2-0) would answer back in the 39th minute, capitalizing on a Hawk turnover deep in their own zone. Off a Mountaineers corner kick, the Hawks tried to clear the ball up the middle, but Mount St. Mary's Mary McCarron stepped in front of the pass. McCarron collected the ball and drilled a shot past SJU's freshman keeper Christine Neal to the right corner to tie the game at one all at the 38:00 mark.

The Mountaineers' McCarron tallied her second goal of the game in the 60th minute to put her team up 2-1. McCarron took a pass from teammate Emily Menotti and dribbled from the left side and placed a drive to the right side of the SJU at 59:22 to give her squad the lead.

Saint Joseph's had several opportunities over the remaining time, but the Hawks' three best shots failed to reach the goal.

For the game, both team registered 15 shots, while SJU held a 6-3 edge in corners.

Individually, Lupinski collected two points for her goal, while Salter finished with a point for her assist. Sophomore Jen Pfeiffer tallied a team-high six shots for SJU, and Neal made four saves in her first collegiate game.

At the other end, McCarron, Sadie Winship and Jenna Stern each collected three shots apiece, with two of McCarron's drives finding the netting. Alicia Miller made eight saves for the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday at Delaware. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
