PHILADELPHIA - Goals by Nicole McCreight, Casey Fry and Ellen Rowe powered the Saint Joseph's field hockey team to a big 3-1 win over West Chester on Friday afternoon at Buckley Field. The victory is the first in conference play for the Hawks this season.

Juniors Theresa Testa and Ellen Rowe and head coach Michelle Finegan spoke with SJUHawks.com after field hockey's 3-1 win over West Chester on Friday afternoon. The video will load after a brief advertisement.

West Chester (5-8 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) drew first blood 11 minutes into the game as Kayla Gluchowski tipped in a long shot by Nicole Fiorilla to put the Golden Rams up, 1-0.

Saint Joseph's (4-9 overall, 1-1 Atlantic 10) answered eight minutes later as McCreight sent a rocket into the cage off a direct corner from Caitlyn Crane and Hannah Rogers. It was her 10th goal of the season

Fry scored what would turn out to be the game-winner just under four minutes later, re-directing a feed from Rogers past WCU's Gabby Panasiewicz for her fourth tally of the year in her first action after missing three games with an injury.

After the break, West Chester sustained some offensive pressure, but the Hawk defense was up to the task. Goalkeeper Kelly Swanick made seven saves, including six in the second half, to keep the Golden Rams scoreless.

Rowe sealed the win with 12:25 to go after tucking a rebound past substitute keeper Kristen Arnold. The Hawks then held West Chester without a shot for the rest of the game to close out the contest.

The Hawks are right back at it on Sunday afternoon with a noon start against La Salle. Sunday is Senior Day, where SJU's seven graduating seniors will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
