Box Score

BALTIMORE, MD. - Saint Joseph's split its first two games of the UMBC Spring Classic, losing to Niagara, 9-2, and defeating UMBC, 7-3. Play continues through Sunday.

In the first game, Niagara scored five runs in the fifth inning en route to a 9-2 win over Saint Joseph's.

The Hawks jumped on the board in the first when Bernadette Moran reached base on an error and eventually scored on an error. SJU also scored in the secon after Taylor Korpita doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Juliette D'Ambrosio.

Niagara countered with three runs in the second, led by a solo home run from Kristin Sito. The Purple Eagles added five more in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run home run by Teresa Healy.

Erin Gallagher took the loss for SJU, while Cassie Stone earned the win for Niagara, striking out six.

In the second game, the Hawks (10-8) scored two runs in each of the first three innings, getting a home run in each frame.

Monica Aguilar led the way with a two-run homer in the first inning. SJU scored two more in the second on a solo homer by Taylor Korpita and a run-scoring triple from Laura Cardone. UMBC got one back in the second, but Brooke Darreff hit a two-run shot in the third and an RBI single in the fourth to make it 7-1.

UMBC got a pair back in the fifth on RBI singles, but the last seven Retrievers went down in order.

Taryn Ashway earned the victory for the Hawks after allowing three runs on five hits in four innings. Erin Gallagher pitched three scoreless one-hit frames in relief.

Darreff and right fielder Taylor Korpita also had a pair of hits for Saint Joseph's.

The Hawks will return to action at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday against Georgetown. SJU closes out play in the tourney on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. against UMBC. Live stats for all games can be found by clicking here.
