BRONX, N.Y. - Playing without its two top players, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis persevered and earned an impressive 4-3 win at Atlantic 10 for Fordham on Saturday. With the match tied 3-3, junior Maggie Mullaney gave the Hawks the victory with a straight-set victory at No. 1 singles.

Saint Joseph's (4-11) claimed the match's first point, winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Mullaney and sophomore Laura Matz posted an 8-5 win over Fordham's Sarah Tremaine and Martina Featherston at the top flight, while the SJU team of sophomore Kate Dowd and freshman Tara Walsh helped the Hawks earn a point with an 8-5 victory over the Rams' duo of Elizabeth Stall and Jennifer Mullen at the third flight.

Switching to singles action, freshman Nicole Esposito earned a point for SJU with a 6-3, 6-4 win at the fourth flight over Stall, while Dowd gave the Hawks their third point with a 6-2 7-5 decision over Mullen at No. 6 singles.

Fordham posted wins at the second, third and fifth singles flights to tie the match at 3-3. Usually playing at the second or third flight, Mullaney excelled at No. 1 singles on Saturday, posting a 6-4, 6-4 win over Tremaine to earn the victory for the Hawks.

The Hawks also claimed an exhibition win in doubles action as the duo of Alexis Arons and Erin Malafronte downed Brittany Russell and Jane Carroll by a score of 9-7

Saint Joseph's returns to action tomorrow when the Hawks host NJIT at the SJU Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
