May 9, 2010

Box Score

AMHERST, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's softball team earned the fifth seed in this week's Atlantic 10 Championship after finishing the regular season with an 11-7 mark. The Hawks, who dropped their final regular-season doubleheader at Massachusetts on Sunday, will face the fifth-seeded Saint Louis Billikens at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

The 2010 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held May 12-15 at the Massachusetts Softball Complex. Should SJU win, it would face the top-seeded Minutewomen at noon on Thursday. The Hawks fell in last year's title game to Massachusetts.

All the seeds came to be after Sunday's final games. In SJU's first game at Massachusetts, the 20th-ranked home squad posted three runs in the bottom of the first against SJU sophomore pitcher Erin Gallagher. The Minutewomen score the first two runs on a pair of RBI singles, with the third run coming on a wild pitch.

Massachusetts added a RBI single in the third and a solo home run in the fifth to hold on for the 5-0 win.

Sophomores Bernadette Moran and Alaina Loguidice collected the two hits for SJU in game one.

In the nightcap, Massachusetts' offense made the game go fast, earning an 8-0 win in five innings. The Minutewomen scored one in the first, three in the third and four in the fifth to earn the win.

Moran and junior Taylor Korpita recorded hits for SJU in the second game.
