Men's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Lehigh, 16-7

Bethlehem, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team dropped it's season opener to Lehigh, 16-7, at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Saturday. Sophomore Kyle Williams scored four goals for the Hawks.

Lehigh got on the board just 1:07 into the game. SJU answered back with a goal from Augustus Quinzani nearly five minutes later, but Mountain Hawks' Dante Fantoni netted back-to-back goals to go up by two, 3-1. Williams netted a goal to get the Hawks back within one, but Lehigh scored two more to end the quarter up by three, 5-2.

In the second, Williams scored two more goals, while the Hawks held Lehigh to one goal. Senior Scott Cullinan added a goal to get SJU within one, 6-5, with just a second left in the first half.

Lehigh came back from the break and fired 15 shots towards Saint Joseph's goalkeeper Griffin Ferrigan. The Mountain Hawks held SJU to two shots and scored seven goals in the third quarter.

Lehigh added two goals to start the fourth, using a 9-0 run to take a 15-5 lead with 8:27 remaining in the game.

Williams scored his fourth goal at the 7:28 mark and sophomore Kyle Mahoney added a goal at 5:52, but the Mountain Hawks held SJU off for the remaining minutes while Fantoni scored his fifth goal, and the final goal of the game, to ice the win for Lehigh at 16-7.

Cullinan and Mahoney each had a goal and an assist, while Ferrigan made six saves in net for the Hawks.

Saint Joseph's will face Bryant in it's home opener on Saturday, February 19, at 1:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
