CONWAY, S.C. - The Saint Joseph's softball team dropped its final game of the Kickin' Chicken Classic, falling to host Coastal Carolina, 8-2, Sunday afternoon. The Hawks capped their season-opening tournament with a 2-3 record.

Coastal Carolina scored runs in the bottom of the third and fourth to take a 2-0 lead, but the Hawks answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Senior Laura Cardone struck with a double down the left field line, scoring sophomore Dana Parks and freshman Brianna Sasala.

The Hawks had a chance to take a lead in the sixth, but couldn't as junior Monica Aguilar couldn't advance past second after a leadoff single.

A two-run homer by Jazmin Daigle in the bottom of the inning chased Hawks' starter Erin Gallagher and gave the hosts a 4-2 edge. Coastal Carolina would add four insurance runs to end the game.

Individually, Cardone, Aguilar, Parks, senior Dana Bieniek and sophomore Shannon Kramer each collected a hit on the day.

Saint Joseph's returns to action next weekend at the North Carolina University's Carolina Classic. The Hawks open play against Georgetown at 2 p.m. on Friday.
