Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener, 14-2, to Drexel

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team dropped its season opener, 14-2, to Drexel on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Jen Peters scored the Hawks' two goals in the game at Finnesey Field.

Drexel outshot the Hawks, 14-5, in the first half and scored eight goals to take a 8-0 lead at the break. The Dragons were led by Alyse Maiden, who had two goals and an assist, while Charlotte Wood had two free-position goals in the frame.

Peters opened the second half with a goal 3:10 into the second half, but the Dragons retaliated with a goal 30 seconds later. Peters attacked back with a goal just 33 seconds later.

Unfortunately for the Hawks, Drexel held onto the lead and scored five more goals in the remainder of the game for the win.

Maiden led the Dragons with three goals and two assists, while Wood tallied three goals and an assist and Lindsey Kovar added two scores.

Hawks' goalkeeper Kaitlin LaBarbera tallied four saves on the afternoon.

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Saturday at Wagner. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
