The Saint Joseph's softball team split its doubleheader at Villanova on Tuesday. The Hawks took the opener, 2-1, but fell to the Wildcats, 3-2, in the second game.
Saint Joseph's took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second in the first game on a rBI single by Deanna Stinner that scored Monica Aguilar.
The Wildcats tied the score in the third on a RBI single, but the Hawks would rally late. With the game tied and sophomore Dana Parks as second, junior Bernadette Moran drilled a double to the gap between right and center, scoring Parks to help SJU go up 2-1.
Junior Erin Gallagher made the lead stand, blanking the Villanova batters in the final two innings to pick up the complete-game win. Gallagher allowed one earned run on five hits, while striking out nine.
In the nightcap, Aguilar put the Hawks up 1-0 in the second on a solo homer down the right field line.
The Wildcats would tack on three runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of a trio of SJU fielding errors.
Parks would make it a 3-2 game in the top of the sixth, scoring on a passed ball, but the Hawks would leave two runners on base to end the inning and were set down in order in the seventh to end the game.
Saint Joseph's (16-9) hosts Rhode Island at 3 p.m. Friday at Villanova's softball field.
