The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to Rutgers, 12-4, on a cold and blustery Finnesey Field Wednesday afternoon. Grace Dinn and Jen Peters scored two goals apiece for the Hawks.
The Hawks were down just 3-1 at halftime, but the Scarlet Knights went on a 6-0 run in the second half and outscored the Hawks, 9-3, in the frame to earn the win. Rutgers' Ali Steinberg led RU with four goals.
Rutgers opened scoring in the first half at the 27:41 mark and scored again at 19:23 to go up 2-0. Dinn scored the Hawks lone goal in the half to get SJU within one, but Steinberg scored her first with 27 seconds on the clock to make it 3-1.
Steinberg opened the second half with another goal just 38 seconds in. After a goal by RU's Stephanie Anderson at the 28:31 mark, Steinberg attacked again, scoring just 43 seconds later to put Rutgers up 5-0.
Rutgers made it 6-0 with 12:35 to go, before Peters scored back-to-back goals to make it 6-3 with 8:25 left in the game.
The Scarlet Knights scored three more goals within two minutes to put the game out of reach at 10-3. Dinn scored with 2:54 remaining and Rutgers added two man-down-goals in the last minute of play.
The Scarlet Knights outshot the Hawks 24-10 and won 14 of 17 draw controls. SJU goalkeeper Kaitlin LaBarbera made eight saves in net.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Monmouth. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Kessler Field.
