Richmond scored seven straight second-half goals in a span of 6:43 and held on to defeat Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team, 12-6, on Friday afternoon. Kaitlin LaBarbera made a career-high 14 saves in net for the Hawks, while Grace Dinn had a hat trick and an assist.
Dinn scored the first goal of the game before Richmond scored three straight to take a 3-1 lead. Hawks' Gwen Nihill scored with 3:22 to go and with seven seconds lingering on the clock, Dinn sent a pass in to freshman Val Paolucci who knotted the game, 3-3.
The Hawks took a 4-3 lead at the start of the second half on a Dinn goal before Richmond went on a 7-0 run to make it 10-4. The Hawks scored two more in the remaining minutes but the Spiders had an answer for each for a 12-6 final.
Richmond outshot SJU, 19-6, in the second half and won 14 draws to the Hawks six. The Spiders were led by Caitlin Fifield who tallied five goals.
LaBarbera picked up nine ground balls and had a caused turnover while Elizabeth Fox had five ground balls, two draws, and two caused turnovers.
The Hawks return to action on Sunday when they host George Washington. The first draw is set for 1:00 p.m. at Finnesey Field.
