PHILADELPHIA -
Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team led by three, 11-8, with 20:03 left in the game, but Temple went on a 4-0 run to come back and defeat the Hawks, 12-11, on Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field. Junior Meghan McDevitt led SJU with a career-high six points with four goals and two assists.
Temple outshot Saint Joseph's, 14-8, in the first half, but the Hawks converted all but one of those shots for an even, 7-7, score at halftime. The two teams traded goals in the frame, with neither team leading by more than one score. Jen Peters scored with just 21 seconds left on the clock to knot the game before the break.
The Hawks opened the second half with three consecutive scores to take a 10-7 lead before Temple's Charlotte Swavola scored her fourth of five goals in the game. McDevitt pushed the lead back to three before Temple answered with four goals and then won the draw and maintained possession of the ball, until it turned the ball over in the last few seconds.
SJU raced down the field on a breakaway, but unfortunately for the Hawks, Grace Dinn's shot went wide of the net just before the buzzer sounded.
Dinn finished with three goals for Saint Joseph's, while Jen Peters had two goals and assisted on one. Alana Glanell tallied three assists and added one goal.
Goalkeeper Kaitlin LaBarbera made eight saves between the pipes, while Temple's Tess Bishop had seven saves, including six second-half saves.
Saint Joseph's returns to action on Friday when it plays St. Bonaventure in the first of its upcoming three-game road swing. The first draw is set for 3:00 p.m.
