The Saint Joseph's men's tennis team lost its midweek contest against the rival Temple Owls, falling by a 7-0 score on Wednesday afternoon at the TU Pavilion.
The Owls were able to take control of the match early, securing the doubles point with wins in all three flights. Sophomores Tommy Gates and Kristian Broaddus took their third-flight tilt to a tiebreaker but eventually fell to Andrey Morozov and Mansur Gishkaev, 9-8.
In singles play, Temple scored five straight-sets victories to lock up the match. Gates extended his third flight singles match to a supertiebreaker, but eventually succumbed to Dmitry Vizhunov, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8.
The Hawks will head to Pittsburgh this weekend for a pair of matches with conference foes. The squad will take on Dayton at 10:00 a.m. Saturday before Sunday's noon matchup with Duquesne.
