Facing the sixth-seeded Duquesne Dukes, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team put forth a tough, hard-fought effort. Unfortunately for the Hawks, the higher-seeded Dukes prevailed for a 4-0 win at the Boar's Head Sports Club. Saint Joseph's will face 14th-seeded La Salle at 8 a.m. on Sunday for 11th place.
Opening with doubles competition, the Dukes posted a win at No. 3 doubles, but the Hawks held their own at the other two flights. Juniors Tara Walsh and Kate Dowd trailed just 5-4, but held serve when the point was decided. At the top flight, senior Maggie Mullaney and sophomore Casey Robinson pushed Duquesne's Megan O'Sullivan and Samantha Noble, but the higher-seeded Dukes came out on top, 8-4.
In singles, Duquesne picked up its three points at the final three flights to end the contest. Walsh fell 6-2, 6-0 at the fourth seed, while Dowd was topped by the same score. Sophomore Jenna Procyk, playing in her first A-10 Championship, fell to Tara Majdalani, 6-2, 6-0, while Mullaney, Robinson and freshman Devi Jadeja were still competing when the match ended.
