An overtime goal by senior Jen Pfeiffer lifted the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team to a 1-0 win at Mount St. Mary's Sunday afternoon. Junior Christine Neal made three saves in posting the shutout as the Hawks improved to 1-2-1 on the season.
Playing its second-straight overtime match, the Hawks took advantage of a costly foul by Mount St, Mary's late in the first overtime frame. Off a foul, Pfeiffer set up for a free kick from 35 yards out and boomed a shot that goalkeeper Alicia Miller couldn't get to, ending the game at 101:49 with the golden goal.
The Hawks controlled the game for the majority of time, but needed extra time despite finishing with a 16-8 edge in shots.
In net, Neal made one save in the first half and two in the second to earn her first win of the year.
Saint Joseph's returns to action next Friday at Drexel. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
