Women's Tennis Drops Tough Battle to Duquesne, 5-2

AMBLER, Pa. - Opening a weekend of competitive conference play, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team posted a tough battle with Duquesne late Friday night at the Upper Dublin Sports Center. The Hawks claimed the doubles point and got a win at No. 1 singles from Casey Robinson, but eventually fell to the Dukes, 5-2.

The Hawks got off on the right foot as Robinson and freshman Aurora Davis earned a tie-break win at the top doubles flight, 9-8. Sophomore Devi Jadeja and senior Laura Matz teamed at the third flight for an 8-5 win to give SJU the match's first point.

Turning to singles play, Robinson was challenged at the top flight, but prevailed in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2.

Jadeja fought a hard battle at the second flight, going three sets, but eventually falling 3-6, 6-3, 6-1. A similar play happened at the third flight as well as Davis fought brilliantly, but eventually fell 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Unfortunately for the Hawks though, Duquesne claimed wins at the final three flights to earn the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to action tomorrow against Massachusetts.
