BUIES CREEK -
The Saint Joseph's softball team capped play at the Hampton Inn Invitational with a 1-0 victory over host Campbell Saturday afternoon. Freshman Lauren Rendon picked up the game's lone RBI, while the Hawks' pitching staff held the Camels off the scoreboard.
Rendon plated the game's only run in the top of the fifth with a bases-loaded ground out to second that plated pinch runner Traneya White for SJU.
Junior Taryn Ashway threw 4.1 strong innings in improving to 2-0 on the year. Senior Lauren Pembleton followed with two shutout innings of work, before giving way to classmate Erin Gallagher for the game's final two outs and the save.
At the plate, junior Dana Parks was the lone Hawk to pick up a hit in the game.
Saint Joseph's, which improved to 3-1 with the win, return to action next weekend at the Virginia Cavalier Tournament. The Hawks open play versus host Virginia at 12:30 next Saturday.
