Smithfield, R.I. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to Bryant, 11-7, on Saturday at the Bryant Turf Complex, in Smithfield, R.I. Ryan McGee scored three goals on the day while Kyle Williams added another two.
The Bulldogs outscored the Hawks, 4-1, in the first quarter to take control of the game. A man-up goal by McGee with 1:09 to play in the first was the lone goal for the Hawks. Pat Townsend (13:21) and Michael Dougherty (9:32) scored a goal apiece in the second to keep the game within reach as the Bulldogs added three more to make the halftime score 7-3.
SJU came out in the second half, playing solid defense and holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the third. Goals by Williams (3:47) and McGee (3:26) closed the gap to make it 7-5 after three quarters of play.
Bryant got off 12 shots in the fourth, converting four into goals. Two late goals by Williams (00:51) and McGee (00:16) were not enough to mount a comeback as the game ended, 11-7.
The Bulldogs held an edge in shots, 37-35, and face-offs, 16-4, while the Hawks turned the ball over 15 times to Bryant's 20.
Griffin Ferrigan got the start between the pipes, making three saves. Dustin Keen came in to start the second quarter and finish the game with eight saves. Jameson Love made 13 stops on the afternoon for Bryant.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, when they visit VMI for an 11:00 a.m. start.
