Final Stats
Piscataway, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to Rutgers on Wednesday night, 8-7, in Piscataway, N.J. Grace Dinn and Val Paolucci led the Hawks with three goals apiece.
Rutgers jumped out to an early two-goal lead 13 minutes into the first half before the Hawks stormed back into the game with three goals in five minutes to take the lead. Dinn scored the first goal of the night from a free position before Paolucci added her first to tie the score at 2-2. Abby Ananian was then fouled with under 11:30 to play in the first and scored off of the Hawks third free position attempt to take the lead 3-2. A pair of goals by Rutgers and another free position goal by Paolucci would tie the score at 4-4 heading into the break.
Rutgers came out in the second half and controlled the tempo scoring four goals and holding the Hawks scoreless for the first 27 minutes. Down 8-4, the Hawks started a spirited comeback when Meghan McDevitt found Paolucci for SJU's fifth goal. Allison Heath gathered the draw control on the following face-off and after two Rutgers fouls, Dinn added her second goal of the night to make the score 8-6. With 1:06 remaining in regulation, Dinn netted her third of the night taking the once four-goal lead to just one. The Hawks were unable to tie the game up in the final minute as the Scarlet Knights ran out the rest of the clock.
Stephanie Anderson led the charge for Rutgers with four goals.
Saint Joseph's outshot the Scarlet Knights, 15-10, and held an advantage in draw controls, 12-5.
The Hawks will return to action on Friday, April 30 when they travel to George Washington to open up conference play. The game is set for 4:00 p.m.
