FAIRFIELD, Conn. -
Going down to the final singles matches for the second-straight day, the Saint Joseph's women's tennis team again displayed a strong effort, but eventually fell, 4-3, at Fairfield on Sunday afternoon.
The Hawks opened the match with junior Casey Robinson and freshman Aurora Davis teaming for an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles. Looking to gain momentum for the match, the bottom two flights were very competitive, but the host Stags prevailed with wins in both matches to take the first point.
Switching to singles, Robinson fell behind a set to Monica Yajima at No. 1 singles, but rebounded for a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory. Davis added the Hawks' second point with a 7-6(5), 6-3 victory at the second flight. Freshman Kelly Mulquin picked up SJU's third singles win, and her third on the week, with a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles over Carolina Koladzyn.
Needing just one more singles win to take the match, the Hawks got strong efforts from freshman Lauren Roy and senior Tara Walsh at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively, but Fairfield proved too much and claimed the two wins with a win at No. 3 singles for a 4-3 victory.
The Hawks return to action this Wednesday when they host Drexel at 3 p.m.
