Richmond Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 14-7

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to the Richmond Spiders on Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field, 14-7. Freshman Julia Falcone notched the first points of her career as she scored three second-half goals.

Richmond came out of the gates scoring the first nine goals with three in the opening eight minutes of play. It was not until 2:33 left in the first half when the Hawks got on the board with the first goal by junior Nora McGuire.

After an early second half goal by the Spiders, the Hawks answered back with two of their own as junior Gwen Nihill scored the first and Falcone scored on a free position shot. Richmond would add one more before Falcone scored two and completed the hat trick. Sophomore Val Paolucci added her only goal on the day with over 10 minutes in regulation to cut the lead to 11-6. Richmond tallied three more on the day while sophomore Abby Ananian added the Hawks last goal to finalize the score, 14-7.

Junior Alisha Aquilino took the loss in net as she stopped six shots on the afternoon.

SJU controlled the draws, 15-7, and fired 29 shots to Richmond's 24. 20 of the Hawks 29 shots came in the second half.

Saint Joseph's will return to action on Friday when it travels up to Massachusetts to take on the Minutewomen. The first draw is set for 3:30 p.m.
