DREXEL HILL, PA. - Sophomore Langston Galloway received the John P. Hilferty Memorial Award as the Most Valuable Player of the 2011-12 Saint Joseph's University basketball team, as announced at the 57th Annual Men's Basketball Awards Banquet held at Drexelbrook Catering.

It marks the second year in a row that Galloway has earned the award, as he shared MVP honors in 2010-11 with Carl Jones. Galloway, an Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and All-Big 5 First team selection, topped the A-10 in three-point percentage (46.6), while ranking fifth in the nation. The Hawks' second leading scorer with 15.5 points per game, he also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists. A 6-2 guard, Galloway scored double figures in 27 games and tallied 20-plus points seven times.
In addition to the team awards being presented, former standout Pat Carroll was also inducted into the Saint Joseph's Basketball Hall of Fame. Carroll, who starred for the Hawks from 2001-05, will be remembered as one of the finest perimeter shooters in Saint Joseph's history. He owns the school records for career 3-point field goals (294) and 3-point percentage (44.5), while setting the single-season marks in 2005 for 3-pointers (135). The 6-5 forward, who was the 2005 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, tallied 1,324 points in his career, ranking him 25th on SJU's all-time list.
Sophomore Ronald Roberts, Jr. was the recipient of the Robert O'Neill Memorial Award as the Hawks' Most Improved Player for the second year in a row. The 6-8 forward received the Sixth Man of the Year Award from the Atlantic 10 Conference as he averaged 10.9 points and 5.9 rebounds in 34 games off the bench for the Hawks. Roberts connected on 59.7 of his shots from the field and tallied double figures 19 times.
The Patrick D. O'Pake Unsung Hero Award was given to junior Taylor Trevisan, and walk-ons sophomore Colin Kelly and freshman Ryan Hess. Junior Christopher Coyne received the George Senesky Academic Award.
Hawk mascot Joe Mreczko and senior manager Brendan Martin each received the Daniel J. Cummins, Jr. Memorial Award for spirit, while senior manager Spencer Westemeier earned the William F. Maher Memorial Award for loyalty. Janet Greder, director of educational support services, and Suzanne Pearce, learning specialist, each received the William J. Bennett Memorial Award for dedication and service to SJU basketball.
Former player Andre Howard and former student manager Joe Cabrey were each presented with the Michael J. Conway Memorial Award while a group of Saint Joseph's students - Adam Booth, Bryan Keister, and Deirdre Ligget - were presented with the Fr. Emory Ross Sixth Man Award for their support.
Saint Joseph's finished the season with a 20-14 record and earned a bid to the NIT, marking the 10th postseason appearance in the 17 years under head coach Phil Martelli.
