Delaware Beats Men's Lacrosse, 16-6

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team fell to CAA opponent Delaware, 16-6, on Saturday afternoon in Newark, Del. Junior Kyle Williams led the Hawks with four points from one goal and three assists.

The Blue Hens jumped out to an early four-goal lead, mid-way through the second quarter before SJU got on the board with 5:40 left to play in the half. Kyle Williams set up Kyle Mahoney for the Hawks first goal as Delaware tacked on two more before the half was over to make the score 6-1.

Delaware continued the hot hand with seven goals in the third frame to take control of the game. Williams scored the lone SJU goal of the third. The Hawks continued to fight as they outscored Delaware in the final quarter, 4-3. A pair of fourth-quarter goals by Ryan McGee and one by Bobby Hurley in under a minute gave the Hawks some life with ten minutes remaining. The Blue Hens were too much as they added two more late goals before Michael Dougherty added the final goal of the game to make the score 16-6.

Griffin Ferrigan picked up the loss in net as he stopped 13 shots, while Brett Anton got the win with 12 saves.

Mark Yetter, John Austin and Danny Keane led the way for Delaware with three goals apiece.

The Blue Hens outshot Saint Joseph's, 46-31, as the Hawks turned the ball over just 12 times to Delaware's 17. Delaware held an advantage in the face-off department, 17-8, as Will Abbott won five for SJU.

The Hawks will return to action on Tuesday night against Penn for the team's only home night-game of the season. The first face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
