Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Finale to La Salle, 11-3

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to La Salle on a rain soaked Sunday afternoon, 11-3, at La Salle's McCarthy Field. Junior Nora McGuire led the Hawks with two goals on the afternoon.

La Salle held the Hawks scoreless through the first 15 minutes of the first, scoring two goals by Lauren McDermott. It was not until the 14:16 mark of the first that Saint Joseph's got on the board with an unassisted goal by senior Jen Peters to cut the lead in half. The Explorers answered back with a three-goal run before McGuire scored her first at 3:48. La Salle added one more with six seconds remaining in the first frame to take a 6-2 lead into the break.

The second half was much of the same with the Explorers opening with two goals in the first ten minutes. McGuire added her second with 14:58 left in the second to make the score 8-3. La Salle scored three more to end the game, 11-3, with the last goal scored with 27 seconds on the clock.

Megan Corliss picked up the win in net with 11 saves as Alisha Aquilino was credited with the loss as her record moves to 5-11 on the season.

La Salle was led by Kelly Furman, Lauren McDermott, Melanie Sarcinello and Jackie Roebuck who each scored two goals apiece. Furman added two assists as she had a game-high four points on the rainy afternoon.

The Explorers outshot Saint Joseph's, 21-17, while La Salle turned the ball over 17 times to SJU's 11.The three goals allowed by La Salle was a season-low as it held the Hawks in check.
