PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's softball team fell to Fordham, 1-0, in an Atlantic 10 conference matchup on Thursday afternoon at the SJU Softball Field.
Saint Joseph's (12-17 overall, 4-1 Atlantic 10) was kept to one hit, a single to center by senior Alaina Loguidice. Junior Deanna Stinner was the only other baserunner for the Hawks after being hit by a pitch in the bottom half of the fifth inning.
Fordham (21-16 overall, 7-0 Atlantic 10) scored the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth as Chelsea Palumbo drove a solo home run to centerfield, putting the Rams on the board, 1-0.
The Rams threatened in the top of the second, but with two outs and the bases loaded, Saint Joseph's sophomore Maria Ficca flagged down a ball in the right-centerfield gap to remove the Hawks from the inning.
Junior Taryn Ashway (6-8) suffered the loss, allowing one earned run and nine hits over six innings of work.
The Hawks return to action this Friday when they host Fordham at noon.
