No. 10 Massachusetts Upends Women's Lacrosse, 19-4

Amherst, Mass. - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell to Massachusetts, 19-4, on Friday afternoon in Amherst, Mass. Alisha Aquilino, Kaitlyn McSwiggan and Nora McGeever combined to stop 19 shots on the day.

Massachusetts jumped out to an early three-goal lead, six minutes into the game to take control. The Hawks would answer back with two of their own as Val Paolucci got the offense going at the 20:36 mark of the first with the first goal. One minute later, Julie Mineweaser found Meghan McDevitt to cut the deficit to one goal with 19:36 to play in the first frame. Massachusetts fired back to score five goals and take an 8-3 lead into the break.

UMass carried the momentum as it opened the second with nine straight in the first 21 minutes. Jen Peters scored her only goal of the day at the 7:58 mark of the second as McDevitt was credited with the assist. After two more goals by Massachusetts, McDevitt added the last goal of the game to finalize the score at 19-4.

Massachusetts controlled 24 of the 25 draws and outshot the Hawks, 28-10.

Aquilino made 12 saves on the day as McGeever contributed six of her own. Katie Florence picked up the win in net for Massachusetts, making four saves between the pipes.

Katie Ferris led UMass with seven points on six goals and one assist. Cori Murray had a perfect day as she scored on all four shot attempts.

Saint Joseph's will return to action next Friday when it plays its second to last home game of the season. The Hawks are set to host St. Bonaventure on Finnesey Field for a 3:30 p.m. start.
