Final Stats
Hempstead, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team was upended by Hofstra, 13-9, on Saturday afternoon in Hempstead, N.Y. Senior Augustus Quinzani got the Hawks on the board with the squad's first two goals.
After Hofstra jumped out to an early four goal lead in the first four minutes of the game, SJU buckled down on defense and created some scoring chances of its own. It was not until under two minutes left in the first quarter that Quinzani scored his eighth goal of the season to make the score 4-1.
Quinzani opened the second with another goal as the Hawks cut the lead to two. Hofstra tacked on one more before Ryan McGee netted his first to keep the deficit at two. The Pride closed out the half with two late goals as they carried a 7-3 advantage into the break.
SJU outscored the Pride in the third, 3-2, as Bobby Hurley added two goals and Johnny Simanski scored with just 21 seconds on the clock. After McGee started the final quarter with a goal, Hofstra scored four in a row to build a 13-7 lead with six minutes to play. Kyle Williams and McGee went on to each add a goal and finalize the score at 13-9.
Griffin Ferrigan picked up the loss in net as he made 14 saves while Andrew Gvozden got the win stopping seven shots.
Mike DeNapoli led Hofstra on the day with five points from two goals and three assists.
The Pride outshot Saint Joseph's, 40-34 and held an advantage in face-offs, 19-6.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday when they travel to Newark, Del., to take on the Blue Hens. The first face-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
