May 11, 2012

Box Score

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The sixth-seeded Saint Joseph's softball team's season came to an end with a 1-0 loss to fourth-seed George Washington at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Friday at the Billiken Sports Center. The Hawks, who battled their way to make the tournament in the final weekend of the regular season, went 2-2 at the conference championship.

The Colonials scored the game's only run in the bottom of the fifth, taking advantage of a pair of SJU errors. George Washington's Amanda Zakeri reached first on a passed ball. Zakeri, who advanced to third as a throw to second on a stolen base attempt glanced off her helmet, would come in to score on a bloop hit to the right side by Kristi Saporito.

Senior Erin Gallagher capped her career with a stellar game in the circle for SJU. The Hawks all-time leader in wins and strikeouts and allowed just one earned run over 18 innings at the A-10 Championship, and didn't allow an earned run over six innings of work.

At the plate, junior center fielder Dana Parks, senior second baseman Bernadette Moran, senior Alaina Loguidice and junior Deanna Stinner each had a hit.

The Hawks finished the season with a 22-29-1 record and made its fourth-straight Atlantic 10 Championship appearance.
