HARTFORD, Conn. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team got goals from Mo Hawkins and McHale Perkins, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks dropped their first game of the season, 5-2, at Hartford on Sunday afternoon.

Hartford quickly took control of the game, scoring the first three goals of the contest. Caroline Dixon scored the first two goals for the host Hawks scoring on a header off a free kick at 11:59 and on a penalty kick at 15:20.

Hartford would up its lead to 3-0 on a goal by Amelia Pereira at 16:36, but Saint Joseph's Mo Hawkins scored her third goal of the season to make it a 3-1 contest at 23:40. Hawkins tallied SJU's goal on a pass from freshman Olivia McEachern that escaped the grasp of Hartford's goalkeeper and allow Hawkins to tap it into an open net.

The host Hawks would answer back less than five minutes later on an own goal that glanced off the crossbar and off a SJU defender into the net at 27:55 to make it 4-1.

Up 4-1 at the half, Hartford would extend its lead to 5-1 at 59:423 on Pereira's second goal.

Saint Joseph's sophomore McHale Perkins scored off a scum in front of Hartford's net at 83:56 to make it 5-2, but the Hawks couldn't generate another goal as they dropped their first game of the year to move to 3-1-1 on the season.

In net, senior Christine Neal made one save for SJU.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday at Princeton.
