PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer team (2-3-5) will kick off Atlantic 10 conference action at home this weekend on Sweeney Field. The Hawks will host the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure on Friday, Oct. 11 at 7:00 p.m. and the Duquesne Dukes on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
PLEASE NOTE: The Youth Soccer Academy Appreciation Night featuring the South Jersey Elite Barons has been cancelled due to the weather. The event has been rescheduled for Friday, October 25.
Saint Joseph's is coming off of back-to-back road matches at Howard (W, 3-0) and NJIT (T, 3-3) in which the Hawks scored three goals in each. Junior midfielder Jake Nelson (2G) and senior midfielder Pat McGlynn (3A) led the way offensively while junior defender Tommy Brooks, junior forwards Alex Critzos and Mike Glazer, and sophomore forward Emmanuel Temeh chipped in one goal apiece. Senior midfielder Jimmy Reilly and junior defender Jake Mulinge also added assists.
On the defensive end of the field, Brooks and seniors Brendan Reilly and Brian Reynolds have been outstanding on the back line. Each playing 300+ minutes on their three-game road trip, with two matches standing as double-overtime draws, the trio held opponents to a shots-on-goal average of 4.3 per game. More so, the Hawks back line did not allow the Howard offense to fire off a single shot on goal in the entire 90:00 of Sunday's match. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi made five saves at NJIT, including a stop in the 108th minute of play.
Out of 10 different Hawks that own one or more points on the season, Nelson (4G), sophomore Tim Lazorko (2G, 2A), Critzos (2G) and Reilly (1G, 2A) spark the Hawks' offense. D'Ottavi (2-3-5) sports a 1.32 GAA and .731 saves percentage in 955:00.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE – After starting the season with four straight wins, the Bonnies are 6-4-1 on the season. Brad Vanino scored in the first minute in St. Bonaventure's 1-1 tie with St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday. On the season, Emmett O'Connor (4G, 5A), Nicholas Perillo (4G, 3A) and Vanino (3G, 5A) lead the Bonnies offensively while Jeremy Figler (5-2-1) holds a 1.44 GAA and .724 saves percentage. The Bonnies are averaging 1.7 goals per game and 12.6 shots per game in 11 matches.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE BONNIES – Tied 2-2 in the final seven minutes of regulation, St. Bonaventure netted two more goals in the 84th and 90th minutes to defeat Saint Joseph's, 4-2, on October 7 of last season at Finnesey Field. Forward Alex Critzos (55th minute) and midfielder Tim Lazorko (67th minute) scored for the Hawks while Lazorko also assisted on Critzos' goal. Goalkeeper Andrew D'Ottavi made one save in the loss.

SCOUTING DUQUESNE – Snapping a four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sept. 29, the Dukes are 5-4-0 entering Friday's match at La Salle. Austin Lange netted the game-winner in the 81st minute at Saint Francis while Sam Frymier made five saves to post his fifth shutout of the year. On the season, Josh Ellis (3G, 1A) leads the Dukes offensively while six other players have tallied one goal each. Frymier (5-4-0) sports a 0.88 GAA and .860 saves percentage in 816:02.
LAST TIME OUT AGAINST THE DUKES – Last time out against the Dukes, a 94th-minute overtime goal off the head of Duquesne's Isaiah Noreiga defeated SJU, 2-1, on October 5 of last season at Finnesey Field. Alex Critzos scored in the 31st minute for the Hawks, assisted by the midfield pair of Tim Lazorko and Pat McGlynn, but Duquesne scored its equalizer in the 48th minute.
