BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The men's lacrosse team opened its season with a 14-1 loss at #10/11 Lehigh University on Sunday afternoon. Junior attack Ryan McGee scored the Hawks' lone goal of the afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks of Lehigh jumped out to a 5-0 lead by the start of the third quarter, scoring three goals in the first and two in the second.
Saint Joseph's (0-1) struck back as McGee, last season's leading scorer, netted his 39th career goal at the 11:33 mark of the third quarter.
Lehigh (1-0) would add nine more goals for the eventual 14-1 victory. The Mountain Hawks were led by attackman David DiMaria's six-goal effort.
Lehigh outshot SJU, 52-19, and held a 37-17 advantage in ground balls.
In his first collegiate start, sophomore goalkeeper Dustin Keen (0-1) made 14 saves and allowed 14 goals for a .500 saves percentage.
The Hawks return to action next Saturday, February 16, when they travel to Woodberry Forest, Va. for a neutral-site game against High Point. The game will mark the first meeting between the two teams in program history. Start time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
