Softball Sweeps Final Three Games Of USF Under Armour Challenge

TAMPA, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team capped play at the USF Under Armour Challenge with wins over Quinnipiac Toldeo, and Youngstown State. The Hawks topped the Bobcast 7-6 on Saturday and followed with a 6-3 win over Toldeo later in the day. Saint Joseph's finished the tournament with a 6-2 win over Youngstown State to go 4-1 at the tournament.

A seven-run bottom of the fourth broke a scoreless game against Quinnipiac as the Hawks collected four hits and took advantage of an error. Freshman Sarah Yoos collected three RBIs on the game, while senior Taryn Ashway picked up the win while allowing just two earned runs over seven innings of work.

Versus Toledo, the Hawks fell behind 3-0, but rallied to tie it 3-3 in the bottom of the third on RBIs by Nicole Palase, Brandi Harkness and Yoos.

Palase would put SJU ahead for good in the following inning with two RBIs, while Monica Aguilar added an insurance run with a RBI single.

In the circle, Liz Mendez earned the win, while Ashway worked two scoreless innings for the save.

Jumping out to an early 2-0 lead, the Hawks added four more runs in the fifth to take a 6-0 lead over Youngstown State. Yoos, Dana Parks and Morgan Earling each recorded two RBIs each in the game, while Palase was 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Ashway picked up the win going seven strong.
