Pat Swanick Named CAA Men's Lacrosse Co-Rookie of the Week

March 18, 2013

RICHMOND, Va. - Freshman attack Pat Swanick has been named a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men's Lacrosse Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. Swanick has been selected for games played during the week of March 11-17.

Swanick scored three goals and recorded one assist in Saint Joseph's 12-7 win over Marquette on Saturday afternoon. The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Hawks and evened their record to 4-4 heading into conference play.

Trailing 3-2 just under five minutes into the second period, the Crimson and Gray exploded for three goals in 49 seconds to take back a 5-3 lead. Swanick was involved in all three goals, netting the first two within 33 seconds of one another and assisting on sophomore attack Matthew Sarcona's goal at the 9:21 mark. The Hawks would not trail from that point as they held Marquette to four goals for the remainder of the game.

Starting and playing seven of eight games for Saint Joseph's, Swanick leads the team in scoring with 13 goals and ranks second in assists (5) for a combined team-high 18 points. The freshman standout has scored at least one goal in all but one game for the Hawks this season while recording five multi-goal games, two in which he registered hat-tricks.

"Pat has had a tremendous year so far as a freshman," said head coach Taylor Wray after Swanick's three-goal game against Marquette. "We've thrown his feet to the fire and he has really stepped up. He manages the offense, he carries the ball behind the goal, and he's scoring for us. He's drawing slides and getting assists. He's really emerged as a leader for us, even as a freshman."

Swanick and the Hawks will open CAA action this Saturday, March 23, at #17/19 Penn State. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on the Penn State Lacrosse Field.
