MERION STATION -
Seniors Monica Aguilar and Rochelle Christman homered as the Hawks scored eight times in an 8-5 win over Villanova Tuesday evening at the SJU Softball Complex. Senior pitcher Taryn Ashway earned the win, while Liz Mendez picked up the save.
SJU (13-3-1) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on a two-run home run by Aguilar.
The Wildcats cut the deficit to 2-1 in the second and plated three in the third to take a 4-2 lead.
The Hawks answered though with five in the bottom of the third. Freshman Sarah Yoos drove in Nicole Palase on a RBI double to make it 4-3, while Morgan Earling's sacrifice fly tied the game at 4-4 as pinch runner Traneya White scored.
With runners at first and second, Christman delivered the game's biggest blow, a three-run homer to left center to make it a 7-4 SJU advantage.
Aguilar singled home Parks in the fourth to make it 8-4.
The Wildcats would add a run in the top of the seventh, but Mendez worked out of trouble to earn the save in two innings of work. Ashway, who allowed two earned runs over five innings, picked up the win.
The Hawks return to action this Sunday at La Salle.
