NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Freshman attack Bonnie McShane has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. McShane has been selected for games played during the week of March 18-24.
Making her first collegiate start in place of the injured [Bianca] Angstadt, McShane exploded for two goals and three assists en route to a season-high five-point game. Her first goal came just 3:50 into the first half as the second of a three-goal SJU run. McShane also scored the third goal (1:07, first half) of an 8-1 SJU run that broke the game open for the Hawks. The first of the rookie's three assists marked her first collegiate assist while McShane registered four of her six shots on goal, with two of her four SOG resulting in goals.
On the season, McShane has played in three games for the Crimson and Gray en route to tallying three goals and three assists. The freshman sports a .375 shot percentage and .750 SOG percentage.
"Bonnie stepped in and came out and played as if she had been playing and starting for the entire season," said head coach Denise Roessler. "It made a huge impact for us."
McShane and the Hawks will open Atlantic 10 action this Friday, March 29 at home against cross-city rival Temple. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
