Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Campbell, 9-1

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Ranked second in the nation in scoring defense, the Hawks held the Fighting Camels to just one goal as the women's lacrosse team capped its trip to the Carolinas with a 9-1 win over Campbell on Tuesday evening at Barker-Lane Stadium. With the win, Saint Joseph's improves to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 on the road.

Sparked by two goals from the stick of freshman attack Bianca Angstadt, the Hawks went on a 5-0 run to keep the Fighting Camels scoreless in the first half.

Campbell (1-2) would score its only goal of the game less than two minutes into the second half when Erica Hitch broke away after an SJU foul.

The Hawks would score the final four goals of the game, with two of junior attack Abby Ananian's three goals coming during the 4-0 run, to hand Saint Joseph's its second consecutive win and fourth of the season.

Ananian led all scorers with three goals on four shots and added an assist. Graduate student Meghan McDevitt registered two goals and an assist. Defensively, sophomore midfielder Julia Falcone picked up three ground balls to lead eight different Hawks in the category.

In her third start of the season, freshman goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin (3-1) made two saves in a full 60 minutes in the net.

For the game, the Hawks held a demanding 20-5 advantage in shots while also leading in ground balls, 14-8, and draw controls, 9-3. The Hawks also forced 14 turnovers while keeping their own total to a season-low nine.

Saint Joseph's returns home this Saturday, March 9, to host Manhattan. Game time is scheduled for noon at Finnesey Field. The Hawks won their inaugural meeting against the Jaspers, 14-12, on March 14 of last season. McDevitt tallied three goals in the win while goalkeeper Alisha Aquilino made 10 saves in a complete-game effort.
