Box Score

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Anthony Cirillo drove in a pair of runs and Mike Muha added a run batted in, but the Saint Joseph's baseball team ultimately fell to UAB, 11-3, and Young Memorial Field on Tuesday evening.

Saint Joseph's (2-9) took an early lead as Cirillo doubled home Muha and Stefan Kancylarz, who had both walked, to give the Hawks a 2-0 advantage.

UAB (5-7) went ahead in the third with five runs, four of them unearned, on five hits and an error. The Blazers added two more in the fourth to make it a 7-2 lead.

The Hawks got one back in the top of the fifth. With one away, Greg Kumpel drew a walk and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches. Muha followed up with a double to plate Kumpel and cut the deficit to four.

Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, the Blazers answered back in the bottom half on a two-run single by John Frost. UAB closed out the scoring with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

Cory Eller earned the win, improving to 1-1, after allowing one run on one hit in three innings of relief. Shane Carey took the loss, falling to 0-1.

The Hawks will close out their season-opening road trip on Wednesday at Young Memorial Field. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. Eastern.
