TAMPA, Fla. - The Saint Joseph's softball team split its two games at the opening day of the University of South Florida Under Armour Challenge. The Hawks opened play with a 6-1 win over providence, but fell to Northwestern in the nightcap, 4-0.

In the opener, the Hawks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.

The Friars cut the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the second, but senior pitcher Taryn Ashway shut down the Providence batters from there as her teammates would add a run in the fifth and three in the seventh for the win.

Against Northwestern, the Hawks tallied just two hits courtesy of Yoos.
