Men's Lacrosse to Host Delaware in CAA Action this Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's lacrosse team (5-7, 1-3 CAA) will host Delaware in Colonial Athletic Association action this Saturday, April 13. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.

The Saint Joseph's University Athletic Department will celebrate 20 years of lacrosse on April 13 by honoring the school's first men's varsity team. The members of the 1993 Hawk squad will be recognized at halftime of this game, in conjunction with Alumni and Family Day festivities. A reception for alumni and their families will follow the games at Landmark Americana Tap & Grill located on 54th Street. "Their record is not reflective of the ability on their squad," said men's lacrosse head coach Taylor Wray on Delaware. "They're really athletic. They're skilled on the offensive end and they're big and strong on the defensive end. They're always great in transition and facing off. It's going to take our best effort to get the win this weekend, but it's certainly a game we believe we can win."

Saint Joseph's will look for its first win in program history against Delaware as the Hawks stand at 0-12 all-time against the Blue Hens. Last season, SJU fell, 16-6, in Newark, Del. Kyle Williams (1g, 2a) led the Hawks on the attack.

Delaware enters this Saturday's game coming off of a 12-5 victory over Michigan at Delaware Stadium on April 6. Eric Smith, Danny Keane, and Nick Diachenko scored three times each while Conor Peaks (2-2) made a career-high 13 saves in goal.

On the season, Diachenko (27g, 2a), Smith (17g, 10a), and Connor McRoy (10g, 12a) lead the Blue Hens in scoring while Tyler Barbarich has picked up a team-high 65 ground balls and boasts a .564 (136-241) from the face-off. Chris Herbert (2-6) has seen 450+ minutes in goal for a .541 saves percentage and 10.49 goals-against average.

In CAA action, Delaware has fallen to Hofstra (10-5), Towson (7-6, OT), and Drexel (11-10).

Last time out the Crimson and Gray fell to CAA-opponent Hofstra, 13-1, in the Relentless Cup. Sophomore midfielder Michael Dougherty scored the Hawks' sole goal early in the first period off of an assist from sophomore attack Matthew Sarcona. Sophomore goalkeeper Dustin Keen (5-7, 1-3 CAA) made 15 saves in a complete 60-minute effort.

Freshman attack Pat Swanick (16g, 6a), Dougherty (12g, 6a), and Sarcona (10g, 5a) lead the Crimson and Gray offense. On the defensive end, sophomore Will Farrell boasts a team-best 33 ground balls and 20 cause turnovers while junior midfielder Will Abbott has picked up 32 ground balls and holds a .479 (90-188) from the face-off. Keen stands with a .552 saves percentage and 8.92 goals-against average in 666:11.
