ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Sparked by an 8-1 run that spanned the opening half of the second, the women's lacrosse team downed St. Bonaventure, 13-7, on McGraw-Jennings Field on Sunday afternoon. Eight different players scored for the Hawks as SJU now stands at 7-5 overall and 1-2 in Atlantic 10 action.

Tied 5-5 heading into the second half, the Hawks attacked for seven unanswered goals. Junior attack Abby Ananian started the offensive spark for SJU as she gained possession of the opening draw en route to an SBU penalty and free-position attempt for Saint Joseph's in the opening minute of the second half. Junior midfielder Val Paolucci converted the attempt to put the Hawks back up, 6-5, and recorded a second goal just under two minutes later (27:38) to extend SJU's lead, 7-5.

Freshman attack Emily Bowers netted her second goal of the game at the 27:27 mark and assisted on graduate student attack Meghan McDevitt's man-up goal at the 22:44 mark to extend the Hawks' lead, 9-5.

Just 11 seconds later, McDevitt assisted on an Ananian goal before she and sophomore midfielder Julia Falcone added another pair of goals to extend SJU's lead, 12-5, just 19:05 into the second.

St. Bonaventure (5-6, 0-3 A-10) tacked on a goal at the 15:22 mark but Saint Joseph's sophomore midfielder Hannah Hutchins netted her first collegiate goal with 14:00 remaining in regulation to extend the Hawks' lead back to seven, 13-6.

The Bonnies would score one more with just under five minutes remaining but would be held there as the Hawks picked up their first A-10 win of the season, 13-7.

St. Bonaventure scored the game's first goal just 1:28 into the first half, but Saint Joseph's freshman attack Bianca Angstadt scored 27 seconds later to tie the score, 1-1, at the 28:05 mark.

The Bonnies then went on a 3-1 run that spanned the next 10 minutes with an SJU goal from Falcone sandwiched in between (21:19) to jump ahead, 4-2. A Saint Joseph's penalty set up St. Bonaventure with a free-position attempt at the 26:14 mark, but the Hawks defensive unit blocked the shot, which would end up playing a huge part in the eventual tie heading into the second half.

Saint Joseph's came back to even the score at 4-4 on back-to-back goals from McDevitt and junior midfielder Michele Granger.

With under two minutes remaining in the first half of play, Bowers made her first collegiate goal a big one as she gave the Hawks their first lead of the game, 5-4, with 1:58 left on the clock.

St. Bonaventure's Mikayla Place registered a tally for the Bonnies with just three seconds on the clock to tie the game, 5-5, heading into halftime.

In the first half, Saint Joseph's held advantages in shots (13-8) and shots on goal (11-6) while the Bonnies controlled eight of 12 draw controls.

For the game, Saint Joseph's was led by McDevitt's sixth hat-trick of the season. The standout's three-goal effort ties her for eighth on SJU's all-time list for career goals (88) while her two assists bring her into sole possession of eighth place on SJU's single-season list for assists (18). Her five-point effort gives her 141 points for her career, tying her for sixth place on SJU's all-time list for career points.

The Hawks saw additional multi-goal performances from Bowers, Falcone, and Paolucci. Bowers also dished out two assists in just her second collegiate game while Falcone picked up two ground balls and caused three turnovers.

Freshman goalkeeper Genevieve Giblin (6-5, 1-2 A-10) made six saves in a complete 60-minute effort.

The Hawks outshot the Bonnies 26-17 and held an 8-4 advantage in ground balls.

Saint Joseph's will return home for a pair of games next weekend. The Hawks will fact La Salle on Friday, April 12 at 4:00 p.m. on Finnesey Field.
