Mike Glavin, a 1978 graduate of SJU, is in his sixteenth year as head men's cross country and track coach. The 1992, 1998 and 2000 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year for Men's Cross Country, Glavin has led the men to three A-10 Championship titles. Under his watchful eye, the Hawks have produced 27 all-conference harriers and two NCAA qualifiers.
Glavin returned to his alma mater after a highly successful ten-year stint as track and cross country coach at Paul VI High School in Haddon Heights, N.J. During his tenure there, he led the cross country team to a phenomenal 110-0 record, including three state championships in 1984, 1985 and 1988. His track record was an equally impressive 60-18, which included four South Jersey championships and the 1989 state crown.
A stellar performer for the Hawks as an undergrad, Glavin established numerous records, including the outdoor track record for the three-mile and the 5,000 meter runs and the indoor record for the mile and two-mile. He also held the Belmont Plateau cross country record with a time of 25:36. Glavin qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships in both his junior and senior years.
Glavin holds a Master's degree in mathematics from Villanova University and is currently teaching at Haddonfield High School in New Jersey. The 47-year-old resides in Ardmore, Pa. with his wife Julie.
