Hugh McInaw Profile


Among the most respected names in Philadelphia-area soccer for over 30 years, Hugh McInaw is in his sixth year as an assistant coach at Saint Joseph's University. He previously served on Tom Turner's staff at SJU during the 1994 season.

McInaw got his start in coaching as an assistant on Turner's staff at La Salle College High School from 1978-79. In 1980 he was named the head coach at Cardinal Dougherty High School. He compiled an 85-74-17 record in 14 seasons at Dougherty, leading the team to a pair of Catholic League crowns.

He spent the 1994 season as an assistant at Saint Joseph's before being appointed the head soccer coach at Temple University. He spent five seasons (1995-99) in North Philadelphia, capturing Philadelphia Soccer Seven Coach of the Year honors in 1997 after guiding the Owls to a 10-7-2 record and a City Series title.

A 1972 graduate of Philadelphia Textile, McInaw was the Rams' leading scorer as a junior, helping the team become the nation's top-ranked soccer program for most of the year (1970). Prior to Textile, he was a prep standout at North Catholic High School, leading the team to three straight League titles.

McInaw resides in Upper Dublin, Pa., with his wife Jean. He has two children; the youngest, Michael, was a previous member of the Hawk squad.
