Saint Joseph's softball team opened its new field, the SJU Softball Field with a dedication on March 21, 2012.
Helping guide Saint Joseph's to a pair of the Atlantic 10 Championship game appearances over three season, Ron Shoemaker returns for his fourth year as an assistant coach at Hawk Hill.
Joining Terri Adams' staff for the 2009 season, Shoemaker has helped transform the Hawks into a regional power as they have boasted a 87-54 record over the past three years. Along with team accomplishments, Saint Joseph's players have garnered 11 Atlantic 10 All-Conference and nine A-10 All-Tournament Team selections under Shoemaker's guidance.
A familiar name in the softball community, Shoemaker adds nearly 20 years of experience at both the collegiate and ASA levels to the Hawk bench. He began his collegiate coaching tenure as an assistant coach at Mercer County College from 1991 to 1993 before accepting a similar position at La Salle.
From 1993-97, Shoemaker helped guide the Explorers to four-straight postseason berths. As a member of the Midwestern Collegiate Conference, La Salle had two All-Conference honorees and two All-Newcomer Team members under Shoemaker. Making the move to the Atlantic 10 in 1996, the Explorers went 54-44 overall and had four All-Conference selections during his final two seasons.
Shoemaker joined the staff at Archbishop Wood High School from 1998-99, helping the Vikings to the Philadelphia Catholic League title and an undefeated season in 1999.
Taking the reigns as head coach of the 18-U Blazing Angels, he guided his team to an appearance in the ASA National Tournament. Under Shoemaker, the Blazing Angels became the first East Coast team ever to win the ASA National Tournament.
Shoemaker returned to the collegiate game in 2002, joining Adams as an assistant coach at Temple. The Owls advanced to the Atlantic 10 Tournament each season with Shoemaker, culminating with an A-10 title and NCAA appearance in 2004.
