After posting four spectacular seasons on the mound for Saint Joseph's, pitching standout Lauren Cognigni brings experience to the Hawks' bench as she joins head coach Terri Adams' staff as assistant coach.
A four-year starter from 2005-08, Cognigni capped her career as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts (534). Appearing in a record 114 contests, Cognigni amassed over 100 strikeouts each season, and set the Saint Joseph's single-season mark for strikeouts with 186 in 2006.
Cognigni etched her name in the Hawks' record book early in her career as she posted just the second perfect game in SJU history in a victory over Lafayette on March 19, 2005. She continued that dominance throughout her career, posting a pair of no hitters during the 2007 season (vs. Robert Morris and vs. Rhode Island), becoming the only Hawk to ever register multiple no hitters.
Prior to Saint Joseph's, Cognigni was a standout pitcher at Pennsbury High School. Guiding her squad to the Pennsylvania state title as a freshman, she went on to earn Philadelphia Inquirer and Bucks County Courier Times Player of the Year honors as a senior.
