A four-year starter on the mound for Saint Joseph's, Lauren Hughes returns to Hawk Hill in 2008, joining head coach Terri Adams' staff as graduate assistant coach.
One of only three Hawks ever to earn Atlantic 10 All-Championship Team honors twice, Hughes capped a stellar career in Crimson and Gray having started over 70 games and collecting 220 strikeouts.
A 2007 graduate of SJU with a degree in elementary/special education, Hughes helped the Hawks to two appearances in the Atlantic 10 Tournament over her four seasons. As a rookie, the Holland, Pa., native helped the Hawks advance to the championship game, allowing only earned one run, while striking out six. The following year, Hughes again was stellar in the clutch, throwing seven scoreless innings versus St. Bonaventure while striking out one to earn her second A-10 postseason accolade. For her career, Hughes posted a 0.53 earned-run average in the postseason to go with seven strikeouts.
A standout at Council Rock South High School, Hughes earned First Team All-Bucks County Courier Times and Trenton Times honors, tossing five no-hitters along the way. She is currently working towards her Master's degree in education.
