Box Score Senior Amanda DeAngelo became the fifth volleyball player in program history to record 1,000 career kills in Saturday's 3-1 loss to Post University at the Bobby Morgan Arena in Philadelphia.
DeAngelo (Vestal HS/Vestal, N.Y.) entered Saturday's contest three kills shy of the milestone. The senior outside hitter picked up her first kill on just her second attack of the first set, tying the game at 2-2. Her second kill brought Sciences within two 8-6 before she reached the milestone on her very next attack closing the Devils deficit to one 9-8.
The Devils went on to win that first set 25-20. Post then took the next three sets, 25-21, 26-24 and 25-19 to win the match and improve to 11-7 overall and 7-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference games. Sciences dropped to 1-11 overall and 0-9 in league play.
DeAngelo went on to finish the match with 15 total kills in 39 total attacks with just three errors for a .308 hitting percentage. The 15 kills moves her into fourth place on the Devils all-time kills list with 1,012 for her career, passing Christine Puschak who recorded 1,010 in her four year career (2007-10). She also recorded a team high 21 digs for her second double-double of the season. Caitlyn Crawford (Covington HS/Covington, Ohio) led the team with 17 kills while Desirae Lair (Las Vegas HS/Las Vegas, Nev.) added 13. Kaileen Bevenour (Washington Twp. HS/Sicklerville, N.J.) returned to her role as primary setter and recorded 46 assists.
Defensively, Crawford tied her own school record for blocks in a four-set match with seven on the afternoon, while also adding eight digs. Christine Irrera (Spring Ford HS/Royersford, Pa.) and Nicole Rivera (Our Lady of Mercy HS/Pittsford, N.Y.) joined DeAngelo in double figures in the digs column with 18 and 17 respectively. Bevenour added three blocks.
As a team the Devils recorded 52 kills, their highest total of the season thus far. The team's 87 digs are also a season-high. The team's .176 attack percentage is their second best mark in the 12 games they have played (The team hit .216 vs. Cheyney on 9/6).
Emily Wilman and Skylar German both recorded double-doubles with Wilman notching 16 kills and 11 digs and German getting 14 kills and 13 digs. Julia Slyaktina dished out 50 assists and Janilee Alvarez led five Eagle players in double figures with 23 digs. Nicole Brown had seven blocks.
The Devils will take to the road for their next two matches, traveling across the river to face Philadelphia University on Tuesday October 14, 2014 and to northeast Philadelphia on Friday, October 17, 2014 to take on Holy Family University
