HAMPTON, Va. - The Saint Joseph's softball team got a home run from junior Ashley Alden and an RBI double from freshman Madeline Brunck, but it wasn't enough as the Hawks fell to Fairleigh Dickinson in the final day of the Hampton Invitational.
Fairleigh Dickinson jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Saint Joseph's answered back in the top of the third as Brucnk's RBI double scored senior Maria Ficca from second with one out.
Alden gave Saint Joseph's (3-4) the lead in the top of the sixth, drilling a solo home run to right center to make it 2-1 in favor of the Hawks.
Unfortunately for SJU, the Knights would strike for the tying run in the bottom of the sixth and tallied the winning run with two outs in the seventh.
At the plate, Ficca was 1-for-1 with a run scored and three stolen bases, while Alden was 1-for-3 with the home run.
In the circle, sophomore Liz Mendez was the hard-luck loser, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out eight.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Penn beginning at 3 p.m.
