PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's softball team took momentum from Saturday's wins into Sunday as the Hawks topped Penn 5-2, and 5-0 in a doubleheader between city rivals.
In game one, Saint Joseph's (11-10) tallied two runs in the fourth and three in the fifth to open a 5-0 edge.
Ashley Alden and Hannah Dionne picked up an RBI each in the fourth as Nicole Palase and Traneya White each came in to score.
Isabella Picard drew a bases loaded walk to to score Madeline Brunck in the top of the fifth, while Dionne delivered the biggest blow, a two-run single that scored Alden and Sarah Yoos.
In the circle, sophomore Anna Lauterbach went seven strong innings for the win, allowing two runs in the sixth, but finishing with five strikeouts.
Dionne was 2-for-3 in game one for SJU, with Alden collecting the only other hit in the victory.
In the nightcap, the Hawks' pitching dominated as Niki Carillo and Liz Mendez combined for the shutout. Carillo, who allowed just four hits over the first four innings picked up the win, with Mendez closing the door on the Quakers with three hitless innings of relief.
An error by Penn's right fielder on a sacrifice fly by Brunck scored White and Picard to make it 2-0 in the fifth.
The Hawks would add insurance in the seventh as Cyndi Wilson led off with a solo home run, while Brandi Harkness picked up two RBI on a single that scored Sarah Yoos and Jackie Gheraldi.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Tuesdat when it hosts Drexel.
