PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer shutout streak continued Friday night as the Hawks posted their fifth straight shutout, besting Quinnipiac, 2-0, at Sweeney Field. Saint Joseph's got goals by sophomore Ramsey McMenamin and junior Olivia McEachern, while junior goalkeeper Allison Ebling made two saves in the victory.
Controling the pace of play for most of the first half, the Hawks (6-3-0) got on the board late in the period as McMenamin took advantage of a misplayed ball by the Bobcats' goalkeeper. On a cross into the box by Saint Joseph's, Quinnipiac's goalkeeper Natalia Grodski came out to play the ball, but mishandled it, allowing McMenamin to collect the ball on the left side of the box and deposit her first career goal into an open right side of the net at 41:30.
Despite outshooting the Bobcats 9-4 in the second half, Saint Joseph's couldn't convert early as Quinnipiac continued to press.
The Hawks defense answered though as only two of the opposing shots made it on net, with Ebling waiting with a save on both tries.
Keeping the ball in the Quinnipiac (1-5-0) zone for the final minutes, the Hawks would add an insurance goal at 89:29 as McEachern took a pass from sophomore Emily Gingrich inside the box and beat the keeper to the right post to seal the 2-0 win.
The Hawks, who finished the game with a 17-5 edge in shots and 6-2 advantage in corners, return to action this Sunday when they host Columbia at 1 p.m.
